In a deeply personal and heartbreaking update, Sister Wives star Janelle Brown opened up about the final resting place of her late son, Garrison Brown, who tragically passed away by suicide at the age of 25. On the emotional May 11th episode, Janelle revealed that she and Kody chose to lay Garrison to rest in Wyoming, a place filled with deep familial significance for both of them. As she explained, “Kody actually grew up in Wyoming,” and the connection to the state runs through both sides of the family—Kody’s father and Janelle’s mother are already buried there.

Janelle spoke of how much the Wyoming landscape and its lifestyle shaped Garrison. He had spent summers working on the family’s ranch there, a place that left a lasting impact on him. She described the cemetery chosen for Garrison’s ashes as serene and breathtaking—surrounded by mountains, open basins, and the ever-present Wyoming wind. “It’s just a beautiful view. A Wyoming view,” she shared.

The tragedy of Garrison’s death, while devastating, became a catalyst for healing some long-standing tensions within the Brown family. Janelle expressed hope that despite the many issues among the adults, they succeeded in raising children who genuinely felt like siblings—a rarity in plural families. “That was our biggest goal,” she said. “And I think we’ve been successful.”

Kody, who had a strained relationship with Garrison prior to his death, viewed the burial in Wyoming as a spiritual journey and a chance to bring his son “home.” The patriarch of the once-large polygamous family, now fractured, saw this moment as a way to complete a painful circle. “I want to take him home and put him in the ground next to his grandma and grandpa,” Kody stated.

Meanwhile, revelations about Kody and his fractured relationships with his other wives and children continued to surface. His first wife, Meri, disclosed how she was led to believe they might rekindle their relationship after moving to Flagstaff in 2018. But those hopes crumbled. “He’s done this for many years,” Meri admitted, expressing frustration at Kody’s lack of honesty and communication. By early 2023, Meri finally chose to walk away, to the relief of those close to her. “It’s about damn time,” her friends told her.

Even as one wife left, another, Robyn, found herself grappling with the burdens of holding the family together. Robyn, now Kody’s only legal and romantic partner, confessed their marriage was under serious strain, despite being monogamous for the first time in their 14-year relationship. “We’re probably doing the worst we’ve ever done,” she admitted during the season 19 premiere. Robyn confessed to constantly feeling on edge, fearing that Kody might sabotage their relationship amid his turmoil and disconnection from the rest of the family.

One of the most significant breaking points for Janelle came when she realized Kody was no longer trying to repair the damaged relationships with their children. “The big spark for me was when his relationship broke down with my children, and he didn’t seem like he would move heaven and earth to fix it,” she explained. For Janelle, loyalty to her kids came first, and the lack of effort from Kody sealed the decision to step away.

The conflict didn’t end there. Kody acknowledged feeling alienated from many of his older children and uncertain of his role in the family. “It doesn’t feel like a family,” he said, admitting his connection with some children was now “infrequent” at best. One of the most glaring examples was his estranged relationship with Maddie, Janelle’s eldest daughter. Janelle confirmed that Maddie had cut off communication, not just with Kody but with Robyn as well. “She’s written them both off,” Janelle stated, revealing that Maddie won’t allow her children—Axel, Evangeline, and Josephine—to have contact with their grandfather unless he shows consistency and commitment. Tensions between Kody and Maddie’s husband, Caleb Brush, who also happens to be related to Kody through marriage, added fuel to the fire. According to Janelle, “Since Cody has not been calling or coming to see [the kids], Maddie feels like until he can be consistent and not dramatic, it’s probably better they don’t know about him.”

Despite Robyn’s efforts to push Kody toward reconciliation, Kody remains distant, claiming conversations with his kids often felt like a fishing expedition for gossip. He seems unwilling to make the first move, even as his children drift further away.

Adding another layer to the emotional turmoil, Meri confronted painful truths about the early days of her relationship with Kody. During their 32nd anniversary, she told a friend how she questioned whether Kody ever truly loved her. In a raw confession, she asked, “Why would a single young man choose to marry a woman he didn’t love?” Kody, in turn, offered little reassurance, admitting he never felt connected to Meri and never even enjoyed their honeymoon. He shockingly confessed he should have ended their marriage decades ago but stayed out of fear and religious obligation.

As Janelle contemplates her next steps, the legal reality of their spiritual marriage looms large. Without a legal bond, she holds no rights to any property and is now considering involving lawyers to settle matters surrounding the Coyote Pass land. “I really have no legal rights to make any kind of claim on Cody’s property,” she admitted, though paying off the land remains a first step toward finding closure.

In the midst of all the heartache and fractured connections, one truth remains: the Brown family as viewers once knew it is gone. Janelle’s heartbreaking farewell to Garrison serves not only as a final tribute to her son but as a symbolic turning point. One era has ended—and whatever comes next remains uncertai
