Coronation Street has aired Eileen Grimshaw’s final scenes as she leaves the soap after 25 years.
Back in January, Sue Cleaver announced she would be stepping away from her iconic role as Eileen, with Ryan Thomas reprising his role as her son Jason for her exit storyline.
Eileen recently decided to move to Thailand with Jason in order to seek a fresh start. Meanwhile, eager to repair his dwindling romance with Eileen, George Shuttleworth agreed to go with her.
However, in tonight’s episode, Eileen overheard a conversation between Theo and his daughter Millie which appeared to open her eyes. As Theo explained the importance of being honest about your feelings to avoid “living a lie”, George noticed the speech resonating with Eileen.

At Roy’s Rolls, George shared his relationship worries with Steve, telling him: “I’m starting to think there might be quite a lot Eileen’s not keen on about me, either.”
Steve did his best to reassure the undertaker, but accidentally let it slip that Eileen had her own relationship qualms, leaving George even more concerned.
Later, Eileen shared that the police had closed the case regarding her involvement in Julie’s death, but George had other matters on his mind.
“Lately, I sense that you’ve been having doubts about our life together. About us. In truth, about whether you love me at all,” he said. But when he mentioned his chat with Steve, furious Eileen stormed out.

As she confronted the cabbie, George arrived and asked her bluntly if she still loved him. When Eileen admitted she loved him as a friend, heartbroken George told her to enjoy Thailand without him.
At the cab office, Eileen shared her break up with Steve and Tim, before realising that her travel plans could still go ahead.
“Jason’s got his place in Thailand. I could invest Julie’s money in the bar, live off the rent at Number 11, and island hop with a backpack,” she told them. “I don’t have to come back, at all.”
Later, Eileen’s friends and family gathered in the Rovers to bid her farewell on her adventure. However, the mood shifted when an upset George arrived and broke down in the back room with Glenda.

As Eileen made her emotional exit, she was waved off by the Street Cars drivers, who had lined up their cabs along the cobbles.
George returned to gift her a neck pillow for the journey and promised to stay in touch, before Eileen and Jason made their final exit from Weatherfield.
