The following article contains spoilers from the episode of Emmerdale dated April 8. It hasn’t aired on ITV1 yet, but can be viewed on ITVX.
Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) has made his job at Hotten General Hospital even more of a nightmare in Emmerdale after knocking Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) down with his car and admitting him as a patient.
Yesterday, Jacob performed CPR on Doctor Todd’s (Caroline Harker) father, despite being aware he has a Do Not Resuscitate order. Jacob’s colleague knew he was making a mistake, but Jacob believed that his mentor would want the opportunity to say goodbye.
Given Doctor Todd’s ongoing campaign against Jacob, it’s safe to assume she would’ve verbally attacked him even if he did respect the DNR.
When she discovered what he had done, Todd took pleasure in pointing out that Jacob had, once again, gone against hospital protocol.
Her high emotions and anger towards Jacob led to Doctor Todd saying that he will never make it as a fully qualified Doctor. Heartbroken, Jacob left and got in his car.
Distracted, Jacob ended up hitting Cain. In today’s episode, he had to ignore his emotions as Kerry Wyatt (Laura Norton) and Kyle Winchester (Huey Quinn) begged for his help.

Cain was rushed to hospital and while he sustained a few injuries, that wasn’t his main concern.
He was told that because he will need time to recover, his prostate cancer operation will need to be rescheduled, giving the cancer chance to spread.
As soon as Cain discovered that Jacob was the one to hit him, he knew exactly what to do about his postponed operation.
He told the panicked resident doctor that he will ensure he doesn’t face any serious police consequences, if he manages to get the operation brought forward. Jacob stated that he wasn’t able to do this, but also told Kerry later in the day that if Cain’s cancer spreads, it’ll be all his fault.
So, what will Jacob do?

Will Jacob help Cain?
-
Yes, he will take a risk
-
No, he won’t
Doctor Todd’s bullying has left this young doctor in a fragile state. If he risks his career, helps Cain, and his boss finds out, it’s almost guaranteed Todd will get him sacked.
That being said, if he doesn’t dabble in some malpractice, Cain’s more than likely going to go through with his threat and have Jacob arrested.
A difficult path lies ahead – but what one will it be?
