Coronation Street star Adam Hussain’s new project is now available to watch for free following the actor’s recent departure from the ITV series.

Hussain stars alongside Hollyoaks actor Kirsty-Leigh Porter in a short film titled Spice For Life, directed by Saleem Miah. Now available to watch on YouTube, the story draws from the filmmaker’s personal journey through the foster care system.

The 12-minute production follows “a British-Asian teenager and his well-meaning foster parent”, reads the official synopsis, as they “attempt to bridge their emotional and cultural divide”.

In an interview with ITV, Saleem Miah talked about the inspiration for the film. “I grew up in foster care myself, I moved about quite a lot,” he told the publication.

“I grew up in Oldham, and I was placed with a lot of white families, which I think is quite like a unique, interesting. upbringing.

“I’ve always wanted to make a film about it. The story it’s fictional, but a lot of the scenes in it I have kind of got from my own life, really. But I’ve been really lucky in the sense that I’ve met people along the way that have supported me.”

Spice For Life marks Hussain’s first role since his departure from Coronation Street this month. Known for portraying Aadi Alahan, the actor announced in April that he would be leaving the series after five years, as his character heads for India.

Taking to Instagram after his final scenes this week, Hussain said: “I just want to say thank you so much to everyone for watching Aadi on Corrie over the years.

“You know these past five years have been so educational and such an experience. I’ve made friends that will last a lifetime and I’ve grown not just as an actor but as a person as well.”

Hussain also sparked potential return rumours when he said that this is “not goodbye forever”. As his character hasn’t been killed off, there is always a chance that he could return to the streets of Weatherfield in the future.

“It’s very relieving to know I can always return whenever I want to,” he said recently.
