EASTENDERS fans have been left disappointed and fuming after being unable to meet the show’s cast at the studio gates.

A number of soap superfans have descended on the BBC Elstree Centre across the summer holidays in hopes of catching a glimpse of their favourite show stars.

However, they have been left saddened to discover they are unable to grab a selfie with any of the programme’s cast.

The entrance to the show’s set lies on a public residential road and as such there is long-standing guidance in place to confirm that cars are unable to stop outside of security gates.

But many fans have been left bitterly disappointed after turning up and only discovering this advice once they are stood directly outside the building.

One source told The Sun: “As is always the case during summer, many fans and supporters of the show have attempted to loiter on the street in hopes of having a chat and a selfie with the cast.

“But what most of them hadn’t realised is that because of the residential nature of the area and the narrow roads in and out, vehicles are unable to stop in order to prevent road blocking and disruption to the locals.”

An insider close to the show also said: “This guidance has been in place for a while.

“Everyone has always been advised not to stop as they leave the site as the studio is on a residential road. The safety of everyone coming in and out of the premises is paramount.”

Fans’ recent disappointment comes after there was an increased security presence to ensure everyone’s safety during the taping of the 40th anniversary live episodes in February of this year.

As a result of it being a high-profile event, guards and local Police Community Support Officers worked together to ensure maximum safety across the board.

A source said at the time: “PCSO officers came down to the studios to assist BBC security in managing the crowd.

“The crowd was extremely peaceful and wanted to be close to their favourite show on such a huge night and to catch a glimpse of the stars.

“The officers and security worked together to keep the situation under control.”
