How was he to know that it was Theo, or that Theo didn’t obey because he wasn’t holding a weapon, and so thought the order didn’t apply to him?
Theo, naturally, wasn’t happy to be shot. But he has never taken responsibility for his role in the tragedy. And he kept brow-beating and brow-beating JJ, until JJ had been completely gaslit.

Thanks to the number Theo did on him, JJ froze when Shawn (Brandon Beemer) was faced with an assailant, and his hesitation resulted in Shawn getting shot. Shawn wasn’t honest with Jada (Elia Cantu) about it, so JJ tattled on himself and turned in his badge and gun. Jada was furious with Shawn, which was correct.
The Fallout: Is JJ Cut Out for This?
Considering how, thanks to Theo, JJ has no more confidence in his judgment, and he won’t listen to his partner telling him he shouldn’t blame himself, we really, really think it’s time for JJ to leave the force for good.
He isn’t cut out for this. He cares too much about what other people think about him and, worst of all, he doesn’t believe in himself. Thats dangerous for everybody in Salem.
