Well, it didn’t take long for EJ and Belle’s tryst to explode out into the open on Days of Our Lives. In fact, it was only secret for about one night before Marlena walked in, tore Belle apart and threw EJ out of her home. She made it clear that if her daughter was sleeping with that horrible human being, it was not happening in her house.
Belle, for her part, made it clear to EJ that this would not be happening again at all — but we know it will. Come on, she said the same thing just before jumping into round two with him! All her jabs and insults just seem to be feeding the flame of passion between them, so we don’t see Marlena’s disgust moving the needle.
And Martha Madison pretty much confirmed that in an interview with Women’s World. The actress also insisted that Belle knows what she’s getting into with EJ’s darker side, adding that their dynamic is a lot like that of Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd in Moonlighting. “They’re constantly love-hating, love-hating, love-hating, because they both know this isn’t right. There’s a lot of humor and it’s all over the place. That’s fun to watch and play.”
“‘Let’s just follow our desire and our instincts and have some fun! And who cares? Nobody’s gonna get hurt,’” Madison explains Belle’s reasoning. We all know where that type of thinking leads on a soap. As she’s hopping into bed with EJ, he’s plotting revenge against her friend Jada, has replaced the commissioner’s soon-to-be husband and is keeping the real Rafe hostage underground.
Granted, EJ kind of stumbled into this problem when Arnold showed up out of the blue, but he could have done the right thing from the start. And hey, maybe the push and pull when she has to put on her DA hat to prosecute EJ will make the whole taboo aspect of the relationship even more fun.
Sure, in the real world, we’re pretty sure Belle would have to recuse herself due to a conflicting relationship with the defendant, but what are rules in Salem? Then again, that’s why EJ was fired and Belle brought on — she does the right thing and does things by the book. He used his power and influence to help those he liked and punish those he didn’t. So maybe she will actually step back and let an assistant DA take over.

No matter what, though, we don’t see this ending pleasantly. Even if EJ and Belle don’t implode when his misdeeds explode, there’s still Sami’s return on the way. Belle told EJ in bed between sex that her sister’s wrath is something that she takes very seriously. He tried claiming it’s something she found humorous, but Belle made clear it’s no laughing matter.
And when EJ’s inevitably shot, we’re guessing that’s when Sami will be back and the affair out in the open. At that point, all the humor might evaporate and both sisters will likely be suspects. Would Belle ever really sink that low, trying to get justice after the legal process fails? If not, Sami might.
“EJelle’s” tryst last time was the straw that broke the camel’s back and sent Sami packing, she claimed for good. Another go around could finally push her to snap and try taking out the ultimate source of her misery (EJ) once and for all. After all, Alison Sweeney admitted that the story that brought Sami back left her “shocked.”
As Madison said to Women’s World, these days, “Every script is a surprise!” So while there’s a slim chance Belle will finally be the one to tame the wild EJ, there’s also the chance that he’ll just drag her down into the muck with him. And bring Sami crashing down along with them.
