Brandon Barash’s exit from Days of Our Lives as Stefan certainly leaves a curious opportunity in the world of daytime. We’re talking about the
possible return of Johnny Zacchara to General Hospital. Peacock’s loss could be ABC’s gain if it wanted to scoop up the fan fave now that he’s
left Salem. But the real question is whether he is open to the idea, and Soaps.com made sure to ask that very question during our recent
interview.
Barash’s answer was understandably vague since he says that no one from ABC has contacted him yet, but we think there’s an opening to be explored. “It would be interesting,” he says. “The terms would have to be right. Even though I left on my terms back in 2014, I think it was… God, that was 10 years ago. Wow.” Barash left General Hospital a decade ago to spend time with daughter Harper, whom he shares with former wife Kirsten Storms (Maxie on that soap). He has no regrets because he loved being able to enjoy those “formative years” with his first child.
The timing of his Days of Our Lives departure has also allowed him the same quality time with his son, Joaquin, and wife Isabella Devoto. But now? He’s ready to get back to work and “will take any meeting.” Are the powers that be at General Hospital listening? The last time viewers saw Johnny, he was “still lifting weights in the Pentonville yard” serving out his murder sentence.
“That’s as far as I know what he’s doing,” jokes Barash. “Maybe he’s gotten his college degree like the Menendez brothers and he’s teaching classes, but who knows?”
Well, Lyle and Erik Menendez might be getting out of jail, so maybe there’s a storyline opportunity for the General Hospital writers to tie into Johnny’s lost love Lulu awakening from her coma. “That’s what I’ve heard,” he says as he ponders the idea. “You know, no one’s ever gone in the world of daytime, be it Salem, Port Charles or Genoa City.”
