Coronation Street‘s Rob Donovan will be left angered next week, after he receives a big update from sister Carla Connor about her potential kidney transplant.
After Carla contracted sepsis at the beginning of the year, she was told by doctors that the infection had left her with severe kidney damage, meaning that she needs to receive a transplant.
Her jailed brother Rob has offered to donate Carla a kidney if he is a match, claiming that being in prison has changed him – but fans are aware that he seems to have an ulterior motive.
In scenes that will air on Wednesday, February 5, Carla tells her girlfriend Lisa Swain that doctors will be running some tests on Rob to find out if his kidney would be a match.
If it is, she will need to stump up the cash for a deposit, having found out that she will need to be treated privately due to the costs of keeping a prisoner in hospital for the operation.
Carla later goes to visit Rob and lets him know that he will soon be tested within the prison to find out whether he can donate his kidney to her.
But Rob is visibly annoyed by the news, as he had assumed that he would need to go into hospital for testing.
Could this new setback threaten Rob’s mysterious plans? And will he go ahead with helping Carla, or let her down when she needs him the most?
It has also recently been reported that Rob is set to have a fling with prison guard Mandy, although whether this is also part of his secret plot remains to be seen.
Rob actor Marc Baylis recently spoke out about how his character has changed since he was last on screens in 2017, saying that “Rob is a very different person”.
“There are some heartfelt moments with the people that Rob loves, including new characters that Rob has relationships with,” he said. “There’s a darker side to Rob than I’ve known before, and we get a window into, I would say, a man who needs more support than he’s getting.”
