Coronation Street star Colson Smith has broken his silence on filming his final scenes as Craig Tinker.
Back in January, Colson announced that he was leaving the soap after 14 years, with the star confirming he had filmed his final scenes a few weeks ago.
Opening up about his last day on set on his On The Sofa podcast, Colson recalled an emotional day that was filled with “plenty of tears.”
Talking to co-stars Ben Price and Jack P. Shepherd, Colson said his goodbye speech to the cast and crew didn’t “come close” to what he wanted to say.
“Thank you doesn’t even cover it. It doesn’t come close to what I needed to say,” he said.

“It was a very well put together off the cuff speech I thought,” Jack told his co-star. “You covered everything. You touched on you having your first experiences at work. From getting your first house, to having your first girlfriend, passing your driving test, all those big sort of milestones you’ve done while at work.

Revealing that people were moved to tears following the speech, Jack continued: “People started to cry, and you said ‘thanks it’s been amazing, best job I’ve ever had – only job I’ve ever had’.”
“It was the perfect way for me to end the perfect first chapter,” Colson added.

After sharing the news of his exit on Instagram, Colson wrote: “I’ve LOVED every single second of my 14-year stay as a resident on the GREATEST street in the world.
“I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I’ve learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I’m excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy.
“For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can’t wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!”
