Gary Windass (Mikey North) was recently told by Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien) that Theo Silverton (James Cartwright) is potentially abusing Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) in Coronation Street.
Gary has been mates with Theo for a little while, so he struggled with the fact he’s more than likely been oblivious to what his so-called friend has been doing. He needed to witness the dynamic between Theo and Todd for himself, so he decided to invite himself over to their flat.
Gary is not a man you want to cross. The trouble-making roguish builder has crossed the line between tortured-anti hero and straight up villain on more than a few occasions – mainly when he killed two people.
Not only was he responsible for the factory roof collapse that resulted in the death of Rana Habeeb (Bhavna Limbachia), but he manipulated events and people to shift the blame over to Carla Connor (Alison King). However, the dark deed that put Gary in the Weatherfield Villains’ Hall of Fame was killing ruthless loan shark Rick Neelan (Greg Wood) in self-defence, before taking over the criminal’s business and becoming just as ruthless.

While Gary’s since turned over a new leaf and settled down into family life with his wife Maria Connor (Samia Longchambon), his old killer streak is still under the surface waiting to strike. The man radiates ‘you spilled my pint’ energy every time he trudges into the Rovers’ Return. All he’s waiting for is some wrong’un to threaten his nearest and dearest, to give him a reason to explode…
For months, Theo has subjected his partner Todd to all manner of horrific abuse including emotional manipulation, financial control and bouts of terrifying violence. Recently, the vile bully actually pulled a knife on his partner during a blazing row, and instead of backing down, a broken Todd dared Theo to put him out of his misery. Without fear, Theo’s hold over his victim was broken, so he ended their relationship to protect his own ego.
However, the green-eyed monster reared its ugly head again when Todd started moving on with another man, prompting Theo to secretly spike his drink so he could play the hero and trap Todd once more in this toxic relationship.

After successfully worming his way back into Todd’s life, Theo decided to bound them together forever by getting married. It was far from the happiest day of Todd’s life, as Theo basically forced him to the registry office and made him feel as though he couldn’t say no.
In the pub, George Shuttleworth’s (Tony Maudsley) fears that something was wrong with Todd’s relationship started to increase when he found out about the random wedding.
His concerns were practically confirmed the next day, when George heard Theo spouting vile abuse in the flat. George told Todd’s loved ones that he thinks he’s being abused, and tried to come up with a plan to save him.
While in the flat, Gary spoke to Theo while keeping a close eye on Todd’s behaviour. He was fully aware of how nervous he was around Theo, and could even see his hands shaking while he made some teas.
When Todd was out of the room, Gary confronted Theo and stated that he knows who he really is. Unsurprisingly, Theo claimed that he had no idea what Gary was talking about.
Now Gary has some idea of what Theo has been doing to Todd, will he take violent action to get rid of him?
With James Cartwright’s exit announced earlier this year, will Gary’s murderous side rear its ugly head again?
With a juicy whodunnit about to kick off in the Cobbles, one must wonder if Gary will soon be burying a certain ex-employee in concrete…
