Coronation Street‘s Carla and Lisa are officially engaged! Following Carla’s botched attempts to propose, Lisa finally took the reins and got down on one knee in Wednesday’s (3 September) episode.
Ahead of its premiere on ITV1, fans were treated to an early viewing via ITVX and YouTube, sparking plenty of excitement. In the episode, an unsuspecting Carla was called out of work and into the street with her colleagues, where a uniform-clad Lisa was waiting outside with Ryan and a ring!
After delivering a heartwarming speech and getting down on one knee, Carla gladly accepted, and the two exchanged engagement rings before sharing a passionate kiss as their friends and family cheered them on.

Responding to the emotional episode, fans have since taken to social media to celebrate. “Honestly, that proposal was so much better than I could’ve ever imagined #Swarla,” wrote one.
“I am speechless. Nothing could have prepared me for that. Fiancées #Swarla,” added another. Meanwhile, a third raved: “This was so beautiful and romantic and PERFECT. I’m gonna watch it every day for the rest of my life #swarla.”
Speaking with OK! last month, actor Vicky Myers told fans to “fear not” after Carla was forced to abandon her first proposal, which involved leaving a ring in Lisa’s champagne glass.
After learning that Lisa’s late wife, Becky, had proposed to her that exact same way, Carla abandoned ship and decided to pop the question in the garden instead. Unfortunately for Carla, however, things quickly went awry, leaving Lisa’s daughter Betsy to step in and save the day. After informing her mum of Carla’s plans, Lisa quickly came up with a proposal of her own, which thankfully, went ahead without a hitch.
“She’s absolutely smitten, they heal each other,” Myers said of her character’s relationship with Carla.
While the pair are given time to enjoy their engagement bubble, Lisa and Carla have some tough times ahead too, after Tia Wardley – a mysterious woman who could have answers a
bout Becky, and whether or not she was a corrupt copper – arrives in Weatherfield on Friday.
As Lisa and Carla head to the Bistro for dinner with Roy Cropper and Evelyn Plummer, the quartet is quickly interrupted by Tia, who suggests that Carla and Lisa have been looking for her.
Looks like we’ll have to wait and see how Tia’s sudden appearance will affect the fan favourite couple!
