Max is playing the role of Rico ‘Ratso’ Rizzo in the musical which sees a man desperate to escape his dead-end past.
It’s based on a novel written by James Leo Herlihy which follows a pair of down on their luck hustlers in gritty 1960s New York.
Throwing their support behind their co-star were Jamie Borthwick and Shane Richie.
The actors were spotted inside a venue having a very animated conversation, as Jamie grabbed Shane’s arm while telling him something.
Shane was open-mouthed during their conversation as the pair stood having drinks.
They also caught up with Max, who was dressed in a grey suit, as he made his way around the group of people who’d come out to support him.
Shane was pictured in a cap and black jacket and he hugged and chatted to his co-stars as they enjoyed the evening drinks.
Max is used to gritty drama on Albert Square but Midnight Cowboy will push things even further as the story tackles the harsh reality of survival.
The actor performed in online-based plays like Birdsong and The Hauting of Alice Bowles.
His new musical project will be a far cry from his time as a mechanic in the Arches.
Mystery as EastEnders stars Max Bowden and Danielle Harold unfollow each other after gushing about how close they are?
His award winning stint on Eastenders stretched from 2019 until he left last year after bosses decided not to renew his contract.
Following that decision Max was filmed saying he was “so f*****g excited to get out” as he posed for photos with fans.
Max said he’s “super excited” to start a new chapter as he announced his new role on his Instagram page.
He said: “Super excited to be bringing the world premier of Midnight Cowboy the musical to Southwark playhouse – playing the iconic role of Rico “Ratso” Rizzo, alongside an amazing cast. Buzzing for this one”
You can see the Midnight Cowboy musical at the Southwark Playhouse Elephant April 11th – May 17th.
