Days of Our Lives’ Carson Boatman felt that despite their breakups, Johnny and Chanel return to each other with more experience and love.
Despite the DiMera family being a dangerous clan, Johnny brought Chanel into the fold by marrying her on Days of Our Lives. After their previous miscarriage and Johnny’s subsequent misbehavior when he mistakenly thought Chanel was cheating on him, the two have decided to give parenting another try. Since Chanel has to wait several months to see if it’s safe for her to carry a baby, the two decided to adopt, and just in time. Teens Tate and Sophia want to give up their unborn baby, and Johnny and Chanel are happy to adopt the child. Boatman opened up about how the DAYS couple continues to get stronger.
He’s Made Some Mistakes
Being good friends with Raven Bowens in real life, Carson Boatman told Soap Opera Digest that he’s also a fan of his alter ego Johnny’s pairing with Bowens’ Chanel. “I’m always happy when Johnny and Chanel find their way back to each other,” he stated. Johnny’s big mistake was not trusting Chanel and thinking she was having an affair with Alex (Robert Scott Wilson). As a result, he almost slept with Joy (AlexAnn Hopkins), and Chanel nearly danced between the sheets with Shawn (Brandon Beemer).
But that’s all water under the bridge now, and the two have reconciled and learned a lot. “He’s willing to do whatever it takes to make it work and be supportive of Chanel,” Boatman stated, continuing, “rather than question her motives and her decisions.” Considering they almost had a baby not too long ago, the decision for Chanel and Johnny to have a kid wasn’t a surprise to Boatman.
Partners for Life
Boatman further explained how their split-ups have strengthened the fan-favorite couple, noting, “They get better and better with each separation and reconciliation because they understand and appreciate each other a little more every time.” He remarked that learning from their past behavior has helped them to be “More supportive and understanding of one another.”
Johnny’s big takeaway, according to Boatman, was regaining and increasing his trust in Chanel. He also admitted that for the couple to continue to thrive, they both need to change. And splitting up brings them back together stronger than ever. “At the end of the day, they both see each other as their respective partners for life,” he remarked.
