Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney has hinted at her future amid the huge changes on the ITV soap, confirming that she is ‘very happy’.

Both Corrie and Emmerdale are set to reduce episodes to five a week, with the former returning to its previous formula of half an hour offerings.

The changes were confirmed in February following reports of a ‘budget crisis’ and a number of cast departures from both of the broadcaster’s flagship soaps.

Claire, who plays Cassie Plummer, has addressed situation, admitting that she ‘doesn’t know much’ about the cuts but added that she is ‘happy’.

‘As long as I keep that love and passion, it keeps me alive and fresh,’ she said of her future on the show. ‘It doesn’t feel like work’

The former Brookside star added that she is ‘very happy’ on the nation’s most famous fictional Street.

‘I don’t know much about the cuts or what’s going on,’ she told New! Magazine, addressing the situation. ‘I’m just happy’

Cassie’s future on the show was previously called into question when she poisoned Ken Barlow (William Roache).

Ken uncovered what she was doing, with Cassie subsequently facing the music. Evelyn Plummer (Maureen Lipman) returned to the Street to try and help her daughter.

As for the changes to Coronation Street and Emmerdale’s weekly output, the new broadcast pattern will be implemented in January next year.

The decision was made following audience research, which confirmed that the higher viewed episodes of both dramas were the 30 minute ones.

Emmerdale will air Monday to Friday from 8pm, with Coronation Street following on the same days at 8:30pm in what has been dubbed as a ‘soap power hour.
