The love lives of teens on “Days of Our Lives” (DAYS) are never simple, and the tumultuous relationship between Tate and Holly has taken a
dramatic turn. With Tate now romantically involved with Sophia, the question on everyone’s mind is whether this is the end of the road for
“Tately,” or if a spark of hope remains for the pair.
We sat down with Leo Howard, who plays Tate, to get the inside scoop on his character’s complicated love life.
Family First, Love Second?
Howard sheds light on Tate’s sudden shift from Holly to Sophia, explaining it wasn’t just a change of heart, but a shift in priorities.
“Family is so important to Tate,” he said in an interview with Soap Opera Digest. “There have been a lot of things trying to break his family up. Since his dad’s gotten sober, that’s his guy.”
Holly, however, crossed a major line when she turned against Tate’s father and actively sought to put him back in prison.
This, Howard explains, was the catalyst for Tate’s sudden change of heart. “When Holly turned against his dad, it was a little easier to get behind that switch,” Howard said. “It made sense.”
A Toxic Twist
While Tate and Holly’s relationship was undeniably passionate, it was arguably destructive.
“There’s a bit of a toxic thing going on,” Howard admitted. “They do work well together, but yet when they get together it can be kind of destructive.”
He acknowledges Tate’s youth and the fact that teenagers, especially guys, are prone to being swayed by alluring personalities. “When we’re teenagers, we don’t know what we want – especially a teenage guy like Tate,” he said.
“He is very swayable, and Sophia absolutely has that intoxicating charm that makes Tate fall under her spell.”
A Heart Divided
Despite his new relationship with Sophia, Tate hasn’t completely forgotten about Holly. Howard reveals that his character’s feelings for Holly run deeper.
“I think [his feelings for] Sophia are something that can develop over time, but there’s a lot of history with Holly,” he said. “Even the whole situation with [Tate going to] rehab and whatnot, even though it was traumatic, it was still very bonding. They have a deep connection that is hard to replace.
The Power of Chemistry
Howard also shared his experiences working with both Madelyn Kientz (Sophia) and Ashley Puzemis (Holly), highlighting their unique qualities as actresses. While Kientz brings a “manipulative” quality to Sophia, Puzemis portrays Holly as someone who desires what she wants but doesn’t intentionally hurt others.
A Love Triangle Set to Explode
As for what the future holds for this tangled trio, Howard promises more drama to come. “There’s a lot of juice to come with this storyline,” he said. “It’s by no means over at all. There’s a lot of conflict between the triangle of us.
He also reveals a crucial plot twist: “I definitely think that would change the game,” he said, “because it’s one thing to not be with a person, but it’s a whole other thing to see that person with somebody else. I don’t think Tate is prepared to be able to handle something like that.
Will Tate Choose Sophia or Holly?
The love triangle between Tate, Holly, and Sophia is far from over. With simmering emotions and a history of passion and heartache, this storyline promises to keep viewers glued to their screens, wondering if Tate’s true love will be the girl who stood by his father, or the new flame who has captivated his heart.
