Emmerdale star Jonny McPherson has spoken about his character Liam Cavanagh’s surprise proposal plans.
Liam takes centre stage in next week’s episodes as he hopes to pop the question to his partner Chas Dingle.
The romantic storyline paves the way for some of Emmerdale‘s biggest scenes in months, as the villagers head off for a big night out which ends in disaster when two limos crash.
Discussing the storyline, Jonny explained: “Liam plans to propose to Chas, but do it in an exciting and romantic manner. He’s heard Take A Vow have organised a Valentine raffle, with the prize being a trip in a limousine.
“So Liam decides he’s going to buy up about 80% of the tickets, just to make sure he’s the winner. Sadly, that doesn’t turn out to be the case – as Kerry wins.
“Poor Liam is then forced to come up with another plan to ensure he can still go through with proposing in a limo to Chas. So he acquires another limo hired from Suzy and hopes his plan is sorted and back on track. But then he learns the girls have decided to have an entirely girls night hour in their limo, so Chas is no longer free that evening.
“He feels a bit defeated, so it ends up with Liam suggesting that the lads could all have a night out in the other limousine. I think Liam is hoping for some divine intervention so he’s not yet dissuaded from trying to propose, and in fact Mandy does step up to help.”

He continued: “Liam adores Chas and wants to do something special to convey to her the magnitude of his love. He wants to propose in a proportionate way to the level of this love and doesn’t want to just do a standard one knee in a restaurant sort of thing.”
Emmerdale bosses have confirmed that 17 characters are involved in next week’s dramatic scenes, which see both limos involved in accidents during the journey.
One of the vehicles crashes onto an icy lake, placing that group of passengers in a particularly worrying situation.
Jonny added: “I hope the audience will be enthralled by this. This is the first time I’ve done something of this magnitude stunt wise. Our DOP (Director of Photography) Chris Ramage told me that a lot of the shots are the best he’s seen in his 30 years here at Emmerdale.
“I didn’t expect to be such an integral part of it – it is a huge privilege.”
