Emmerdale will kick off a new storyline for Amy and Matty Barton next week, as Amy decides that she wants to expand their family.
Matty and Amy got married last spring and their relationship has remained solid ever since, with Amy supporting Matty through his prison ordeal after he was framed for stabbing Samson Dingle.
But it looks like the couple may face a new hurdle in upcoming scenes, as Amy begins to feel broody.
In scenes that will air in the week beginning Monday, January 27, Amy spends some time looking after young Frankie Robinson alongside Moira Dingle.
Taking care of Frankie soon makes Amy long for a child of her own, with Moira surprised to find out how her daughter-in-law is feeling.
Moira encourages Amy to speak to Matty about her desires, so when Amy catches up with her husband she nervously broaches the subject and suggests that they could look into adopting a child.
Surprised Matty is speechless and struggles to take in the enormity of Amy’s idea. While she nervously encourages him to think about adoption, Matty ends the conversation and heads off to think.
Amy is left feeling guilty about springing her excitement on Matty and hopes that her husband will consider the idea of adding a child to their family. Will Matty and Amy end up on the same page when it comes to their future, or is Amy set for disappointment?
Following Amy and Matty’s wedding last year, actors Natalie Ann Jamieson and Ash Palmisciano spoke to Digital Spy and other press about the couple’s future, revealing that they’re keen for the pair to stick together.
“I’d love to see them going the distance, but it’s soap and things are going to happen. When things happen, that often tends to make people go stronger,” Natalie Ann said.
“Not every huge event rips couples apart, so hopefully when things are thrown at them, they can come out the other side of it.”
Ash added: “It’s really lovely to see them as a young family finding their feet, which has been really nice. Maybe there’s more of that to come, hopefully.”
