The rare BBC soap preview confirms the much-awaited return of Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean), who has been absent from the Square since earlier this year after the tragic loss of dear friend Martin Fowler (James Bye).

EastEnders confirms Sharon Watts' return in explosive new trailer - and she's not alone

Zoe Slater (Michelle Ryan) also features in the trailer, signalling her surprising comeback to Albert Square following a brief stint earlier this year away from Walford. After just a handful of days on screen following a two-decade hiatus, Zoe escaped to Barcelona to dodge a confrontation with her mother Kat (Jessie Wallace).

As viewers will recall, Alfie Moon (Shane Richie) departed to track her down, but sadly came up empty-handed. It appears she’ll be making her way back to Albert Square imminently.

In the preview, Kat is shown applying her trademark crimson lipstick whilst gazing into a mirror, whilst her daughter Zoe emerges from a black taxi, reports Plymouth Live.

Midway through, a brief glimpse shows Sharon sheltering beneath a brolly alongside Patrick (Rudolph Walker), plus another scene featuring Freddie and Stacey sharing a laugh.

There’s also a fleeting moment where a dog snarls menacingly, prompting fans to speculate about the hound’s identity and ownership.

Taking to social media, one fan questioned: “Who’s dog is that? I thought Wellard was long gone?”.

Another speculated: “Probably won’t see the dog again, you know what EastEnders is like with their pets lol.”

A third person added their interpretation: “It thought it was a dog too, you can see its leash. I think it’s symbolism.. Kat is all smiley, sun is shining and she’s surrounded by people laughing.

“Zoe is walking in the rain, surrounded by glum faces and the dog cameo. I think it shows how Kat’s life is happy and she’s surrounded by family, whereas Zoe feels as if she was ‘thrown out to the wolves/foxes/dogs’ walking her life with a dark cloud over her whilst being all alone.”

Meanwhile, another viewer queried: “What’s that dog all about?”.
