Coronation Street star Sydney Martin has been flooded with messages of love and support from her castmates and fans as she marked a huge milestone.

The actress is best known for playing Betsy Swain in the ITV soap. Joining Corrie last year marked Sydney’s big break, having previously auditioned for other roles in the programme.

Sydney, from Rossendale, was officially revealed as being Betsy Swain, the daughter of established character DS Lisa Swain, last summer after already popping up in the ITV soap, simply as Sabrina Adetiba’s mate.

And now, the new soap star is celebrating  aa whole year in the role. Taking to Instagram, Sydney could be seen beaming for the camera as she held onto a cake with ‘1’ candle burning on the top.

Alongside the post, the 23-year-old gushed: “1 whole year of Betsy Swain. So incredibly lucky & grateful. I [love] my job.” The comments soon came flooding in.

First up was Sydney’s on-screen mum Vicky Myers as she said: “Happy Corrieversary Sydney Kidney! What an absolute joy it is to be part of your on screen family. Thank you for being so wonderful and for always making us laugh. Enjoy the cake! Mama Swain xxx.”

Cait Fitton, who plays Lauren Bolton in the soap, commented: “Adore u always,” while Corrie’s Abi Webster star Sally Carman-Duttine replied: “Happy Corrieversary to youuuu!”

Julia Goulding, who plays Weatherfield’s Shona Platt also shared: “Aww happy one year of Betsy sweetheart! More shenanigans to come, I’m sure!” while Hollyoaks actress and Sydney’s real-life pal Isabelle Smith posted: “so proud of you my girl.”

Fans were also keen to show their support. @ileen.hlzw said: “How fast time passes … Sydney you a brilliant keep going, you deserve the world.” @swarlahq wrote: “Happy one year @sydneymartin._. Can’t wait to see what the next year has in store!”

Joining Corrie as Betsy parked Sydney’s first major TV move and previously speaking about landing the job, the soap star, who is 23 but playing the 16-year-old character, told the Manchester Evening News and other press that she originally applied for two smaller roles at the beginning of 2024.

However, two weeks later, she was invited to audition for the role of teenager Betsy, which she was given after a two-month audition process, leading to her quitting her job in supermarket Tesco.

The 23-year-old actress took to Instagram to celebrate her “Corrieversary,” beaming beside a cake topped with a glowing number “1” candle. Captioning the moment, she wrote:

“1 whole year of Betsy Swain. So incredibly lucky & grateful. I ❤️ my job.”

And just like that, the comments came flooding in — including from her on-screen mum and a host of Corrie royalty.

Sydney’s biggest cheerleader? None other than Vicky Myers, who plays DS Lisa Swain — Betsy’s mum in the soap.

“Happy Corrieversary Sydney Kidney! What an absolute joy it is to be part of your on-screen family,” Vicky commented.
