Coronation Street has revealed Helen Worth’s last moments on the set of the soap after her final performance as Gail Platt.
Worth made her final appearance on the ITV soap on Christmas Day (December 25) as Gail headed for France with her new husband Jesse Chadwick, bringing an end to her 50-year stint on the show.
With tributes pouring in over the course of the past week, producers at the soap have released a new behind-the-scenes video of the star filming her final scene, with the clip beginning as the assistant director called “Cut.”
Gradually, other cast and crew members filled out the studio behind the camera, with a tearful Worth paying tribute to her colleagues as she delivered an emotional speech before her departure.
“The reason I’ve been here all these years, and it’s a lot of years – it’s more than I can think about really, is because of all of you people that have been here for, well, some of you for all of those fifty years and others for half of that time,” she began.
“But I couldn’t have done any of it without you. I really couldn’t. You are the most amazing team of people, and I really do say thank you. And as for this lot, who didn’t tell me (about this). Oh God, I love them so much. I don’t quite know what I’m going to do without you. But thank you for everything.”
From there, Sue Nicholls – who plays Worth’s on-screen mother, Audrey Roberts – led the cast and crew in giving three cheers for the exiting actor, with everybody visibly emotional during the clip.
“It was important to us all that we were in her final scene and able to give her the send off she deserves,” said Jack P Shepherd, who plays Worth’s on-screen son David. “All the other crews filming that day stood down and there were hundreds of people there to say goodbye.”
