The Tuesday, Feb. 11, episode of The Bold and the Beautiful promises to be noteworthy for a disastrous reason: It’s all recap. According to the teaser for the half-hour, Steffy, Ridge and Taylor simply retell the story of Finn’s wife being kidnapped by Luna and his breaking through a door to save her.
Now we’re used to the show repeating itself. A lot. But we have this question for the powers that be: Why? We don’t need to be hit over the head with a reminder of what Luna did to Steffy as you build up to Finn’s admission that the killer is his daughter. And you have a whole canvas of underserved characters on whom you could spend the day focusing instead.
Personally, I’d love to see what a typical day for Eric and Donna is like. Now that they’re an “old married couple,” is the spark still there. Do they have long debates about Brooke’s “betrayal” in accepting the CEO job from Carter? Have they taken up pickle ball for real?
What does Zende do in his off hours? It always seemed bizarre to us that the onetime playa wasn’t dating up a storm. But maybe he is. Maybe Bold & Beautiful could show us how busy he’s getting in his downtime; all the better to set up a potentially more meaningful romance with [Spoiler].
And what about Deacon and Sheila? We know that she has storyline coming up via new grandmurderess Luna, but how is she really dealing with the fact that she’s now a 9-to-5 pizza slinger? Is she bored out of her gourd? Do customers point fingers at her? Does anyone even protest that the psycho who shot her son and daughter-in-law is running around free as a bird?
Does Liam even have a life anymore? Isn’t it past time that he found out Ivy is back in L.A.? As into him as she still was the last time we saw her, wouldn’t she have immediately looked him up upon returning? Does Poppy serve any purpose but to get yelled at by literally everybody? In the few minutes that she’s off the heat seat, is she job-hunting? Writing poetry? Jarring essential oils? What?
We could go on. Does Katie even think about going on the occasional date? Is Bridget carrying on a torrid affair with a hospital orderly that we’ve just never been shown? Heck, why not give us an episode set in France so we can get some vague sense of whether Thomas is really in love with fiancée Paris or faking it because he’s marriage-obsessed and desperate to stay away from Hope?
The options were limitless. Yet instead of choose any of them, the show opted for what amounts to a rerun. Do better. We know you know how. At least there seems to be some good stuff coming up.
