EastEnders’ Lauren Branning (Jacqueline Jossa) was left fearing she was the one who attacked Cindy Beale (Michelle Collins) after making a gruesome realisation on Wednesday.
Earlier this week, Lauren was formally arrested on suspicion of Cindy’s attack on Christmas Day, but maintained her innocence and was released on bail.
However, she later admitted to partner Peter Beale (Thomas Law) that she could not remember the hours of Cindy’s attack as she had taken more painkillers. Lauren then left Peter stunned by revealing she’d had a flashback of finding an unconscious Cindy before leaving her for dead.
But as more blanks in her memory started to fill themselves in during the latest episode of the BBC soap, Lauren made a chilling discovery.
She was seen bumping into Anna Knight (Molly Rainford) and spilling her chips, before Lauren freaked out when she noticed she had ketchup on her hands.
After Peter then caught a distressed Lauren trying to score drugs from Ravi Gulati (Aaron Thiara) at the club, an argument between them broke out back home.
In the midst of it, Lauren revealed she’d had another flashback, recalling having blood on her hands and scarf, leading her to conclude she must be Cindy’s attacker.
Peter refused to let his pregnant girlfriend inform the police about the new information, taking matters into his own hands.
He was then seen ominously burning the scarf in question on a barbeque, destroying evidence linking Lauren to the attack.
As Lauren continues to question her guilt, next week will see other members of the Knight and Beale families come under the spotlight.
However, fans still have a whole month to wait until finding out the identity of Cindy’s attacker, as bosses have confirmed they will be unmasked during EastEnders’ 40th anniversary episodes in February.
