Abi Webster (Sally Carman) and her brother in law Carl Webster (Jonathan Howard) have recently started an illicit relationship on Coronation Street after they gave in to passions that had been brewing ever since Carl arrived in the area.

The thing that finally made Abi give in to her feelings for Carl was when she discovered that Kevin (Michael Le Vell) had been telling a massive lie – that he was still undergoing cancer treatment, even though he was declared free of the disease some time ago.

Poor Kevin had had an inkling that there was an attraction between his wife and his brother, and he told the lie hoping that Abi wouldn’t want to leave him while she still thought he had cancer. Obviously this backfired badly.

Since their first passionate encounter, Abi and Carl have been sneaking away to meet up in secret. Kevin has been left floundering by the prospect of his marriage disintegrating, but in the face of Abi’s denials that anything is going on with Carl, he’s had no proof.

In upcoming episodes the two lovers become careless about their meetings and risk being spotted. Not by Kevin, but by someone very close to him – his friend and long-time colleague Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall).

Abi gets a text from Carl, and tells Kevin that she has a migraine and needs to go home. Carl is waiting for her there, but Abi feels too guilty to let anything happen in the home she shares with Kevin. Carl suggests they go for a drive instead and they head off.

But at the precinct, Tyrone spots Carl’s car and it’s clear that he’s seen Carl, who heads over to talk to him to avoid him coming any closer to the car.  Abi sinks down in the passenger seat, desperately hoping that Tyrone hasn’t seen her. But has he?

Tyrone has previously shown that he doesn’t like keeping secrets, especially about things that will hurt his friends.

He was the one who told Abi about Kevin’s cancer lie, to stop her upsetting Jack (Kyran Bowes) by wrongly telling him that his dad’s cancer treatment wasn’t working.
