Coronation Street has confirmed that Yasmeen Metcalfe’s exit storyline will begin next week.
Popular cast member Shelley King is bowing out from the role of Yasmeen after 11 years in the ITV soap.
Next week’s episodes set the stage for some emotional scenes, as Yasmeen’s granddaughter Alya Nazir prepares for big changes in her life.
First up, Alya’s bosses at the Fabian’s law firm try to force her to take on a coercive control case, where she’d be defending the perpetrator.
This makes Alya feel highly uncomfortable after Yasmeen’s traumatic experiences while married to evil Geoff Metcalfe. When Alya’s concerns aren’t listened to, she quits her job.
Alya can’t believe the poor way she’s being treated when her bosses spitefully send her a bill for her training. Wanting some familiarity back in her life, Alya asks her boyfriend Adam Barlow for her old job back.
Later, the eventful day continues as Yasmeen tells Alya that she has been offered a job working for a charity in London.
Yasmeen admits that she wants to sell her share in Speed Daal and move away for this new opportunity. Will Alya be supportive?
Shelley King’s decision to leave Coronation Street was first revealed last month.
Although Shelley hasn’t commented publicly on her departure so far, it’s thought that it was her choice to leave as she wants to pursue other acting projects.
Corrie sources have confirmed that the show’s bosses respected Shelley’s desire to move on. She’d first expressed her ambitions in early 2024, giving plenty of advance notice.
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday, March 7 on ITV1 and ITVX.
