Coronation Street favourite Julie Carp (Katy Cavanagh) recently revealed her terminal cancer diagnosis, and tonight’s episode saw her fall apart as she confided in sister Eileen Grimshaw (Sue Cleaver).
Julie returned to Weatherfield earlier this year and revealed to Todd Grimshaw (Gareth Pierce) that she had been diagnosed with stage four sarcoma.
Though at first she wanted to keep the truth from Eileen, eventually Julie revealed all, and Eileen struggled to come to terms with the news.
In recent scenes, Eileen tried to avoid discussing Julie’s funeral, which led to the siblings having an important conversation, where Julie told Eileen that she wanted her to help make the most of her final days.
Tonight, they attempted to do just that as Eileen arranged to take Julie out for cocktails.
However, things took an upsetting turn when Julie was struck with pain, and begged Eileen to take her home.
Back at the house, Eileen was horrified to hear that Julie hadn’t taken her medication, and urged her to keep on top of her treatment.
The pair then settled in for an emotional heart-to-heart where Eileen told Julie she didn’t want her to hide how she was really feeling.
It was then that Julie admitted that she wanted to stay busy because she was constantly battling with the thoughts in her head.
She explained how half of her had accepted what was happening and that there was nothing she could do about it, but the other half wasn’t ready to go.
Emotionally, she pointed out that there was so much that she still wanted to do, and she hated the thought of the world carrying on without her.
Equally as emotional, Eileen admitted that she wasn’t ready for Julie to die either.
Will they be able to help each other through their pain?
Julie’s storyline is set to come to an end later this year, with her funeral having already been filmed.
