“UNEXPECTED TWIST !!! ” The police swarm Coronation Street - but unexpected scenes follow

Killer Rob Donovan (Marc Baylis) was still on the loose in Coronation Street on Wednesday February 19’s episode – but there was one person who had an idea where he was.

Carla Connor (Alison King) initially thought she’d killed her brother after she pushed him down some stairs after he took her hostage to try to escape from custody.

As Lisa Swain (Vicky Myers) declared that he had no pulse, she turned her attention to getting Carla – who’d just had a kidney transplant and was seriously ill – to hospital. Lisa managed to persuade her college Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) to drive them, rather than go in and secure the scene where Rob’s lifeless body lay.

The police soon discovered that Rob’s ‘body’ had vanished. He wasn’t dead after all, but was now on the run. Obviously this was alarming news for Carla who was concerned that he would come after Lisa. The police urgently needed to find Rob Donovan.

Rob, meanwhile, was in desperate trouble. Having survived being a kidney donor for Carla and then being pushed down stairs, he was in a bad way.

There was only one person he could think of who might help him and that was his son, Bobby (Jack Carroll). Despite all evidence to the contrary, Bobby was the only person who persisted in thinking that Rob might not be all bad and might be redeemable.

At the beginning of this episode, Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) became suspicious of Bobby when he saw him with a wad of cash. He quickly realised that Bobby was planning to give the cash to Rob to help him escape.

Later, Ryan watched as the police, acting on an anonymous tip-off – presumably from Ryan himself – swarmed the street in search of Rob Donovan. When they couldn’t find him they declared that the whole thing had been a waste of time and left.

But as Ryan looked on, behind him we could see Rob, also watching what was happening with the police but staying well away and avoiding capture.

Carla was understandably furious with Bobby when Ryan told her that he’d been planning to help Rob, who was still on the run. She ordered Bobby out of the room.

Carla later told Lisa she felt guilty for pushing Rob and Lisa urged her to stick to the story that he fell.

Lisa herself had been questioned by her boss over the voice recording where she could be heard agreeing to help Rob get his sentence overturned if he gave Carla his kidney, but she said it had been made under duress. She told Carla that her boss had accepted that and she was in the clear.

They still have plenty to worry about, though, not least that Rob Donovan is still on the loose. But his immediate focus is on Bobby, who received a chilling one-word text message from his father: TRAITOR.

It looks like Rob is not best pleased with Bobby – who now has a target on his back.
