Emmerdale‘s surprise departing star has spoken out on their character’s demise in the limo crash.
Last week’s big stunt saw one of two limousines crash into a frozen lake, with it revealed on last night’s episode that it was the girls’ vehicle and that Suzy Merton lost her life after hitting her head.
Most of the women subsequently managed to get out of the car, though as Amy Wyatt tried to cross the ice, it broke and she fell into the water.
A cliffhanger saw Amy trapped under the ice before seeing the arm of a dead body wearing a bracelet she recognised, fans speculating that it could be Nate Robinson. Meanwhile, Kerry Wyatt and Leyla Harding’s lives are also in danger.
Suzy actor Martelle Edinborough has now broken her silence on the exit in a new post on X.
“And just like that… Suzy is no more and a new chapter begins!! What an ep!” she wrote. “It’s been such a blessing to have been a part of such an iconic show that I grew up on and [is] loved by so many!!”
She also responded to a fan who admitted they were sorry to see her go, the star revealing that her departure was a “mutual decision” with the show’s bosses.
“It was time, a mutual decision but it’s been a pleasure to have been part of a show you all love so much!” Martelle wrote.
She further elaborated to another fan expressing disappointment at not seeing more of Suzy: “I hear you. It was mutual in the sense that I had already decided I wanted to achieve more than what was on offer and they too had to make that call.
“It really has been an absolute pleasure being Suzy though and I will be forever grateful I got the blessing.”
