Wedding bells might be ringing for Coronation Street’s David Platt, but behind the scenes, real-life drama is unfolding for actor Jack P. Shepherd. The beloved soap star, best known for his long-running role as David, recently opened up about a surprising conflict with his fiancée, Hanni Treweek, as they plan their big day.
Jack, who announced his engagement last year, shared the unexpected dispute during a conversation with Corrie co-stars Colson Smith and Ben Price on their On The Sofa podcast. While the couple had been on the same page about wedding arrangements, one particular detail sparked their first real disagreement—who would foot the bill for the children’s outfits.
Jack had initially envisioned coordinating outfits for his nieces and nephews, completely unaware of an unspoken wedding rule—tradition dictates that the bride and groom cover the costs. “I had no idea we were supposed to pay for all their suits and dresses,” he admitted. It wasn’t just a few kids either—his brother has four children, his sister has another four, and then there are his own two. That meant dressing up ten children, a task that quickly turned into a financial nightmare.
Adding to the dilemma, renting suits for kids wasn’t an option. “You can’t hire children’s suits—they ruin them in no time!” Jack explained. “What do kids do at weddings? They mess up their outfits, run around, and slide across the dance floor.” As the reality of the costs set in, Jack realized he simply wasn’t willing to take on the expense. “I was like, ‘I’m not doing it! I can’t afford it. I don’t even like them that much!’” he joked.
However, Hanni had a different perspective. She insisted they follow tradition and cover the cost, which led to a bit of a standoff between the couple. Determined to find a solution, Jack took matters into his own hands and made a bold move—he messaged his family WhatsApp group and laid down the law. “I just told them, ‘I’m not paying for it,’” he revealed. Fortunately, his family backed him up, agreeing to pay for their own children’s outfits rather than putting the entire burden on the couple.
Though it may have been their first major disagreement, Jack assured listeners that the issue had been resolved, and the wedding planning is still on track. “We had a bit of a row about it, but we sorted it out. She was saying we have to, but I said, ‘There are too many of them!’” he concluded with a laugh.
With the wedding drama already starting before they’ve even walked down the aisle, fans can’t help but wonder—will David Platt’s big day be smoother than Jack’s real-life nuptials? Only time will tell!
