Coronation Street aired a difficult decision for Bernie Winter ahead of Dev Alahan’s exit from the cobbles.
Actor Jimmi Harkishin is taking a temporary break from playing the Weatherfield businessman, but will be back as Dev sometime in the spring.
In tonight’s episode, Dev learned of a family emergency which required him to travel to India — but did his fiancée Bernie decide to join him on his trip?
Meeting in the Rovers, Dev got off a call from his Uncle Ravi who told him that his wife, Dev’s Aunt Gita, has had a fall.
He told Bernie the news and shared his plans to go and visit them, with them “both getting on” in years.
“I was half hoping you’d come with me,” he asked, giving Bernie a big decision to make.
Though touched, she responded: “I’d love to, as India is a magnet for spiritual seekers like me, but I can’t leave Gemma, not yet.”
Dev is disappointed but agreed that one day they’d make the trip together as he was keen to show her the foothills of the Himalayas.
Later on in the episode, back in the Rovers, Bernie and Dev were joined by his son Aadi who acted strangely.
As Dev looked to book his flight, Aadi reinforced his plans to go, telling him “family is important”, before Bernie questioned him about his odd behaviour.
Dev correctly guessed Aadi wants to run the family businesses while he’s away and he reluctantly agreed for Aadi to take charge on a trial period.
