The actor played Shelley for five years on the ITV soap before departing in 2006, with the character leaving the cobbled streets of Weatherfield for the Peak District to begin a new job at a country club.
Lindsay has appeared in Cold Call and The Madame Blanc Mysteries in the years following her exit, and revealed to Radio Times that she isn’t looking to reprise her role as Shelley any time soon.w
“It has been many years now and I’ve got my own show and I produce as well, so it’s probably not for me,” she said. “But I absolutely think it’s the best thing ever for people to go back, because it’s like another world. It’s a great job.”
Whilst it doesn’t look like likely that Lindsay will return in the near future, the ITV soap is undergoing a period of upheaval after a slew of cast departures were announced, with Paddy Bever, Colson Smith, Shelley King, Charlotte Jordan and Sue Cleaver all set to exit in the coming months.
“After much reflection and in an incredibly difficult decision, I have chosen to step away from Max and Coronation Street to explore new opportunities,” said Bever – who played Max Turner – of his impending exit. “I have been surrounded by such kindness and support every step of the way.
“I’m eternally grateful for the chance to bring Max’s story to life and it’s been a great privilege to contribute to the legacy of such a well-loved and iconic show. This chapter has been unforgettable and while I look forward to what lies ahead, I will treasure these memories.”
