HOT SHOCKING UPDATE!!! BBC confirms EastEnders legend for new soaps podcast

EastEnders legend Anita Dobson has been confirmed as a guest on Lacey Turner’s new soaps podcast, We Started Here, by the BBC.

We Started Here, which launches across all podcast platforms tomorrow, was announced last summer, with EastEnders‘ Stacey Slater star Turner confirmed as host.

The podcast will celebrate the achievements of a number of TV and film icons, from both behind and in front of the camera, all of whom started their careers in soap.

The BBC has now confirmed the guest list for the first series of the podcast, which will kick off its first episode tomorrow with EastEnders actor Jessie Wallace, who plays Kat Slater.

The series will feature an EastEnders 40th anniversary special episode, including a guest appearance by Walford legend Anita Dobson, who played the iconic Angie Watts between 1985 and 1988.

Angie was part of one of soap’s most famous scenes ever, which saw Angie’s villainous husband Den hand her divorce papers on Christmas Day 1986.

The first series will also feature guest appearances by acclaimed screenwriter and producer Jimmy McGovern, who began his career working on Brookside, and writer Sarah Phelps, who has written over 90 episodes of EastEnders during her career.

Former Hollyoaks stars Ricky Whittle and Mandip Gill will also appear. After Whittle left his role as Calvin Valentine, he went on to star in several high-profile US TV series, including The 100 and American Gods.

Gill, who played Phoebe McQueen, has gone on to star in Doctor WhoCurfew and This Time Next Year.

The first series will also feature former EastEnders actors Rakhee Thakrar (Shabnam Masood) and Davood Ghadami (Kush Kazemi). Thakrar went on to star in Wonka and Sex Education, while Ghadami became a regular character in Holby City.

The podcast will also see Turner sharing an insight into her own story, as she explains how she broke into the industry and speaks about her experiences on EastEnders since she first made her debut in 2004.

“I love soaps,” she said of her new podcast. “So, for me, being in a soap and being in people’s living rooms four nights a week, telling relatable stories, it doesn’t really get any better than that.”

Fans have already been given a sneak peek at Turner’s chat with co-star Jessie Wallace, who revealed that she would love to see a big Slater return happen.
