EastEnders has confirmed Ruby Allen’s dangerous scheme amidst the ongoing drama with Walford’s market.
It was revealed last year that the council were looking at redeveloping the area around the market, leaving the future of several traders in doubt as their livelihoods were threatened.
In a bid to impress ex-husband Martin and solidify the rekindling of their relationship, Ruby has done her best to save the market, though went to extreme lengths to do this.
Wednesday’s (January 22) episode saw Ruby cornered by Councillor Barker as he suggested that an “intimate meeting” could help sway his mind, a move that disgusted Ruby and forced her hand.
Using Barker’s seediness to her advantage, Ruby set up a fake online persona and messaged Barker, with Thursday’s (January 23) episode beginning as she met the shady councillor in the café.

He was stunned to discover that Ruby was the one behind the account, with the character indulging in some “good old-fashioned blackmail” as she threatened to expose Barker for the explicit photos he had sent.
The only way he could reverse her decision was if he could sort something with the market, though he spat back by insisting he hadn’t broken the law. After threatening Ruby with jail time, she was nonplussed by his tactic of intimidation and left the councillor with a decision to make.
Ruby later met with Martin, informing him that she may have saved the market. After he enquired as to how she managed it, Ruby divulged all the details of her situation with Barker, though Martin wasn’t too enamoured with her plan.
After a war of words, Martin expressed disappointment that Ruby “still hadn’t changed” after her time away, describing her as “malicious” and “underhanded” as she abruptly left the room – will the pair’s relationship suffer as a result of Ruby’s scheme?
