David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) takes a huge risk in a new Coronation Street spoiler video that could be set to ruin everything.
David has been on edge recently following the discovery of wife Shona Platt’s (Julia Goulding) affair with DC Kit Green (Jacob Roberts), and the threat of Harvey Gaskell’s cronies waiting to strike.
After stealing a significant sum of money from Harvey, David was targeted by Matty and Logan Radcliffe (Seamus McGoff and Harry Lowbridge), who were subsequently warned off by Kit.
However, amid Kit and David’s feud, the detective called off his protection, and gave the lads permission to go after David to get Harvey’s money back.
In the new spoiler video, David and Shona wait at the police station for news on Logan, who has managed to evade police since stabbing Mason Radcliffe.
Though David isn’t entirely sure why they’re there, Shona admits that she’s scared and needs answers on Logan’s whereabouts.
Knife crime – the stats
England and Wales has seen an 80% increase in knife crime in the last 10 years. According to a study compiled up to June 2024, there have been 50,973 police-recorded offences involving a knife or sharp instrument.
The same study highlights that there have been 225 murders involving a knife or sharp instrument in England and Wales in the 12 months to June 2024, 78 of the victims were aged under 25, and 10 of the victims were aged under 16.
Kate Brooks, producer of Coronation Street, said: ‘It’s vitally important to shine a light on this topic, and really show the impact knife crime has on not only the victim and their loved ones, but also the wider community.
‘With the alarming statistics, we want to do anything we can as a show to combat this violent endemic. After watching this harrowing, but important story unfold, if one person thinks twice about bringing a knife to a fight, then we’ve achieved our aim to raise awareness.’
The Ben Kinsella Trust has been working closely with the show on the storyline. You can find more information and support on knife crime by visiting their website
As they wait, David is suddenly approached by former prison friend Andy, who insists on giving David his number so that they can meet for a drink.
Shona is less than impressed, and once Andy is out of earshot, PC Craig Tinker (Colson Smith) warns David to keep his distance.
David insists that he plans to, but will he keep to his word?
Later in the episode, Shona is left shaken when Lily produces a letter from Harvey demanding £10,000 interest, and reveals that someone gave it to her in the precinct.
