Having recently reunited with Martin Fowler (James Bye), Ruby Allen (Louisa Lytton) steps up to support her partner amid fears for his livelihood in EastEnders next week.
At the end of last year, it was revealed the Bridge Street market where Martin is one of the traders, is under threat from developers.
This enraged many of the locals, who bandied together to try and save the market, but so far with little success.
After they receive an update about its future, next week Ruby puts a risky plan in motion that could seal its fate.
At the start of the week, Martin and Ruby are the vision of happiness, but it’s clear Ruby is jealous about his close relationship with ex-wife Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner).
Martin tries to buoy Stacey and best mate Eve Unwin (Heather Peace), who look set to lose their bap van in the market shake-up, and upon hearing their new business idea, Martin makes a plan to call a meeting with the council.
Later, Ruby reveals that her and Martin’s son Roman is set to be discharged from hospital, after Martin donated part of his liver for a transplant just before Christmas, but it’s clear Martin is distracted and has taken on too much.
He is further stressed when the council meeting is brought forward, so Ruby offers to step in at the eleventh hour to help him.
At the Community Centre, the residents make their feelings known, but it’s not long before things take a turn when Ruby begins to argue with Councillor Barker.
Ruby later decides to try a different tactic after a run-in with Councillor Barker in the Minute Mart gives her inspiration, and sets about putting a risky plan into motion in order to impress Martin.
But will Ruby’s plan have unintended consequences?
