Coronation Street‘s Cassie Plummer is wrong-footed next week as Ken Barlow confronts her over rumours that she’s drugging him.
Cassie must decide whether to come clean or create a cover story after Ken’s son Daniel Osbourne warns him that she’s not to be trusted.
This week’s episodes see Daniel’s young son Bertie spot Cassie behaving suspiciously during his sixth birthday party, which takes place in Ken’s house.
Bertie lets Daisy Midgeley know that he saw Cassie putting something in Ken’s drink. Daisy then passes on the information to Daniel.
Daniel isn’t sure what to believe when Cassie claims that she was merely putting sweeteners in Ken’s tea.
Viewers know that she’s actually been spiking Ken with overdoses of antihistamines, wanting to make him tired and overly reliant on her care.
Daniel’s discovery turns complicated when Cassie finds out that Daisy is pregnant and he could be the father. He later confides in Adam Barlow about how Cassie is blackmailing him with this knowledge, wanting him to keep him quiet about what Bertie saw.
Next week, Daniel fights back against Cassie by warning Ken to stop being so trusting of her.
He explains that Bertie saw Cassie slipping something into Ken’s drink and she strangely swore the youngster to secrecy afterwards.
Ken quickly confronts Cassie over Daniel’s allegations, but how will she respond?
Coronation Street‘s producer Kate Brooks recently teased: “Cassie is great to have with the Barlows. She causes such fun, and I love her relationship with Ken, which is just wonderful.
“There will be a lot more of that. The friendship is genuine and real, but Cassie has had a bad life. She’s had a terrible upbringing. She’s made mistakes in the past and it’s sometimes hard to shake off that persona.
“That’s what we’ll see with Cassie. She’ll be struggling with the good angel and the bad angel on her shoulder, and which way is she going to go?”
Coronation Street airs these scenes on Friday, January 24 on ITV1 and ITVX.
