Emmerdale has explained a surprise betrayal for April Windsor’s struggling family.
The ITV soap’s latest storyline twist has seen Rhona Goskirk’s past hit the headlines following the disappearance of her stepdaughter.
April went missing on Christmas Day and her loved ones have come under scrutiny since releasing an online appeal video, which went viral and attracted unwanted attention from trolls.
The local Hotten Courier newspaper later got involved too, publishing a story about Rhona’s previous kidnapping case involving baby Ivy and her past struggles with a painkiller addiction.
In Tuesday’s episode, Rhona was unsettled as she started to realise that the journalist’s source must have been someone in the village.
Rhona pointed out that only a select number of people would know such intimate details about her life, so she wondered who’d blabbed to the paper.
All became clear towards the end of the episode as the journalist in question discreetly confronted Wendy in The Woolpack.
Wendy acknowledged that she’d spoken to the reporter but accused her of misrepresenting her words to create a sensational story.

When praised for giving a quote, Wendy replied: “That wasn’t a quote, though, was it? Because you have twisted it when I thought we were just talking.”
Wendy refused to provide any further information, but the journalist demanded more juicy gossip about the other villagers.
Resorting to blackmail, the reporter threatened to expose Wendy’s own past misdemeanours unless she cooperated.
In 2021, it was revealed that Wendy had failed to disclose criminal convictions when she applied to be a nurse.
This meant that Wendy’s professional qualification was based on deceit, although local doctor Liam Cavanagh agreed to keep her secret and let her carry on working in the village.
In today’s episode, the journalist told Wendy: “You’ve certainly had a very interesting past. Being the mother of a rapist may not have done much to kill your career, but a news story about your failure to disclose criminal convictions might do the trick.

“I need a new story. If you don’t bring me something more interesting, it’ll be all about you and your colourful past.”
Spoilers for this week have revealed that Wendy ends up trading details of Ella Forster’s past to protect her own, risking a backlash from her friends and colleagues.
Susan Cookson, who plays Wendy, finished filming at Emmerdale last year and will bow out in upcoming episodes.
