Coronation Street has lined up a shocking character return as part of an upcoming storyline involving Amy Barlow.
According to The Sun, the soap is set to temporarily bring back villain Eric Sandford after two years away from the cobbles. Craig Cheetham will return to the role and the actor has reportedly already filmed his comeback scenes.
The shock return looks like it will be brief though, as the actor is only reprising the role for one episode of the ITV soap.
Eric’s return will spell trouble for Amy, who will be left reeling that the father of her rapist is back in town.
Eric’s sudden return to Weatherfield will come as a shock for Amy and the rest of the Barlows and his short visit is set to have huge ramifications for Amy.
Back in 2023, Amy was sexually-assaulted by Aaron Sandford after a night out and fans will remember his abusive father Eric who was revealed to have physically assaulted his son as a child.
Following the rape, Aaron protested his innocence and a revenge plot ensued which divided the town. Amy later became a voice for rape victims – even starting her own radio show in which she spoke about her ordeal and advocated for victims speaking out.
Previously speaking about Amy’s storyline, Corrie producer Iain MacLeod said: “Amy, despite outward appearances, is profoundly affected by what happened – as she will be for the rest of her life. So there’s another chapter of this.
“We wanted this chapter to be a final catharsis that doesn’t allow Amy to move on exactly, because I don’t know that you ever can. But it allows her to enter a different chapter of her reaction to what went on.”
