2025 in Emmerdale is already off to a dramatic start, but there’s plenty more excitement, chaos and tragedy ahead

to keep us going through the freezing winter months.

So far this year, we’ve seen Jacob Gallagher (Joe-Warren Plant) face a tough first day on the job in A&E, suspicions surrounding Will Taylor’s (Dean Andrews) Christmas Day death mounting and an unexpected romance in Home Farm.

We’ve also been witness to Marlon Dingle’s (Mark Charnock) devastating search for missing daughter April Windsor (Amelia Flanagan), as well as Ruby Fox-Miligan’s (Beth Cordingly) brave confession to Chas Dingle (Lucy Pargeter) about the abuse she suffered as a child.

Shall we take a look at what’s still to come this year?

Flashforwards

2025 kicked off with a series of flashforwards teasing storylines in the New Year.

We saw Mackenzie Boyd (Lawrence Robb) frantically running through some woodland, as Caleb Miligan (William Ash) seemingly died on an operating table.

His half-brother Cain Dingle (Jeff Hordley) then stands beside a grave, though we can’t see whose name is on the headstone.

A body bag is then pushed from the bridge into the cold river, and in a separate shot, a hand can be seen tapping on the frozen ice below a lake.

Marlon’s panic as April remains missing

Marlon’s heart dropped over Christmas when he went up to April’s bedroom, only to find she wasn’t there. She has yet to return home, with fears for her safety mounting.

The tale took a harrowing turn when a young woman was brought into A&E on Jacob’s first day with a stab wound, and April’s purse was found among her belongings.

Marlon and Rhona Goskirk (Zoe Henry) were called in to identify her body, but were left overwhelmed with emotions when it wasn’t her.

In upcoming scenes, Marlon is startled awake from a dream in which April has died, but he tries his best to keep his upset from his family.

Meanwhile, Rhona’s history of kidnapping baby Ivy is dragged up in the press and used to cast aspersions about her being responsible for April’s disappearance.

The truth is exposed

The truth about Ruby’s historic sexual abuse at the hands of her father Anthony Fox (Nicholas Day) is set to be exposed in upcoming scenes when she receives the DNA test results confirming the identity of Steph Miligan’s (Georgia Jay) father.

After confiding in Chas that Caleb may not be her dad after she was raped as a teenager, Ruby took her advice to do a DNA test.

However, when Ruby is faced with the prospect of finding out the truth, she decides that it is better not to know, and resolves to destroy the results before opening them.

But by the time she gets home, Caleb has already found and opened them.

What will they say, and will Ruby be forced to reveal her harrowing secret?

Moira’s faces new treatment

Following her diagnosis with a brain tumour last year, Moira Dingle (Natalie J Robb) is set to begin radiotherapy.

Cain is desperate to support her through it, but with the guilt of his afternoon passion with Ruby weighing heavily, will he be able to keep it together?

Could Moira’s life be turned upside down even further as Cain comes clean about his infidelity, or will he keep it under wraps?

Brenda’s exit

An exit is reportedly on the cards for Lesley Dunlop, who plays Eric Pollard’s (Chris Chittell) partner Brenda Walker.

While her final scenes are currently unknown, it may well involve the breakdown in her relationship with Eric, who recently took a huge gamble with money – and it didn’t pay off.

Will Brenda depart the Dales alone, leaving an ailing Eric devastated?

Anthony proves a danger

Arthur Thomas (Alfie Clarke) is doing some maths homework in the café, but he’s finding it difficult. To his surprise, Ruby’s dad sits beside him and starts to help.

Given what we know about Anthony now, could he have sinister motives when it comes to this interaction with Arthur?

There is further cause for concern when Nicola King (Nicola Wheeler) arranges for Anthony to give daughter Angelica (Rebecca Bakes) a private tutoring session.

Will the teens find themselves in danger?

Wendy makes an enemy

Wendy Posner (Susan Cookson) is set to make a worrying enemy in Ella Forster (Paula Lane) in upcoming scenes, when she is accosted by a journalist.

When the journalist blackmails her, Wendy reveals Ella’s secret killer childhood in exchange for her dodgy history being kept out of the media.

With both Wendy and Ella tipped for an exit this year, could Ella turn killer once again in revenge for Wendy’s actions?

A chilling end

Multiple lives are set to be left hanging in the balance this February when a car plunges into a frozen lake in the ITV soap.

A flashforward scene earlier this year has already confirmed that someone will be trapped beneath the ice – but who?

With Leyla Harding (Roxy Shahidi), Wendy, Brenda and Ella all set to depart the soap, any one of them could be in danger of succumbing to the freezing deaths.

But which one will it be – or will it be someone else entirely?
