On today’s Days of Our Lives, Paulina gets to Jada’s office where the commissioner informs her boss she wants EJ replaced as DA… with Belle! Jada lays it out, saying she needs a better DA and not only has Belle won cases against EJ, the commish thinks their current DA may be
intentionally letting some criminals run free.
She lays out how many cases he declined who were family members, and Paulina sighs that it doesn’t look good. She tried to get rid of him before, but he threatened to have her recalled. But on top of that, she doesn’t want family drama with Johnny and Chanel married.
Jada gets it… but she needs help keeping the streets of Salem safe. Paulina agrees “EJ needs to go.” But she wants someone ready to step in and stay in the position, and that’s when Jada excitedly tells her about Belle. She’s ready to go and she’s a shark who’s on a winning streak. Paulina is all in, even if EJ goes after her again.
Outside the office, Belle and Shawn run into each other. He notices she’s fidgeting and she informs him that Jada’s proposing her replacing EJ as the DA. Belle admits she’s had some reservations, but Jada convinced her to give it a go. Shawn is thrilled for her, but promises to keep it quiet. But then he brings up Belle and EJ’s “history,” ticking his ex-wife off.
She snaps that what happened was a mistake, but Shawn does his best to back off, saying he’s just worried about EJ’s reaction. Belle doesn’t want to start a war, but she’s been thinking about fighting on the other side of the law for some time. EJ’s picking and choosing who he goes after as DA — Belle would “operate from a place of integrity.”
Shawn agrees, but Belle points out that if she takes the position, they’ll both be staying in Salem — and working together. They’ll survive, he says with a smile. He thinks it’s a good idea.
Over at the DiMera mansion, EJ’s trying to convince Arnold to get out of Salem, but doesn’t get very far before the doorbell rings. He answers the door to find Rafe, who’s there on Ava’s behalf. Arnold listens in from behind the closed living room door. EJ tries shoving Rafe back out, only to be informed that the PI was hired to find out who’s behind Ava’s threatening texts. Steve traced their source to the DiMera house.
He asks where Kristen is, as they traced the texts to her, but EJ says she’s at DiMera. But Rafe has another job to do here. He’s been hired to find out the identity of Lady Whistleblower — which gets a laugh out of EJ — and Rafe wants to question Johnny and Chanel as he’s working through everyone at Body and Soul. Just after EJ gets done saying no one’s home, Arnold drops a glass in the living room and it shatters.
“What was that?” EJ shrugs overly calmly and says Hal will take care of it. He’s not worried. Rafe points out that he’s acting strange, swinging from anxious to overly calm. “What are you hiding?”
EJ then switches back to yelling at Rafe. He’s got no authority anymore, he’s not the commissioner, he’s not on the force and it’s time to get the hell off his property. Rafe shrugs and walks out, leaving EJ to head back into the living room to yell at Arnold. He needs to leave before the two run into each other.
Paulina calls to inform him that he’s needed at the commissioner’s office. Now. He growls, then tells Arnold to go hide “in the west wing,” and when he’s back, they’re going to discuss his relocation to Argentina. EJ heads out, and as soon as he’s gone, Rafe pops out of the bushes vowing to find out what he’s up to.
Back at his home, Tate double checks with Sophia that she’s OK with what they’re about to do. Yes, but before they can get out the door, Holly shows up. “What the hell is going on here?” Tate stammers as Sophia just pushes in and starts going off about the two of them sneaking around behind her back.
Sophia rolls her eyes as Holly keeps yelling about the trip they’re sneaking off on, then finally snaps, “We’re not going to Disneyland, we’re going to get an abortion.” Tate asks for a few moments alone with Holly and Sophia storms out, saying they’re leaving as soon as she gets back.
He apologizes, promising he and Sophia only had sex once and used a condom. He’s only known a couple of days and yes, he tells Holly, Sophia’s sure it’s his. Tate didn’t want to hurt Holly, so he didn’t think it would be a good idea to tell her. Neither of them want to have the baby and she can’t get an abortion in the state without her parents’ consent, so they made plans to go out of state.
Tate says it doesn’t have to change anything, but Holly isn’t sure. Tate looks her in the eyes, promising that once Sophia can “take care of this,” everything is going to work out. Is she OK with him taking her out of state? “I guess I have to be.” He did this, and he’s responsible, but this doesn’t change anything between the two of them.
Holly thinks this is the universe telling them they shouldn’t be together. “Screw the universe!” They proclaim their love for each other and say goodbye with Tate promising he’ll be home soon.
Out in the square, Ava’s looking at one of the threatening texts when someone puts a hand on her shoulder. She spins around, snapping at Kristen to “stay the hell away.” It’s not Kristen behind her, though. She apologizes, and Amy Choi introduces herself as Sophia’s mom. She’d like Ava to give Sophia her retainer at her shift today before she leaves to look at colleges. Ava tells her Sophia’s not working, but immediately backtracks after Amy says Sophia told her she had a shift.
Ava then reassures Amy that Sophia’s a responsible employee and a wonderful person. Amy thanks her, but asks if anything’s been off, because Sophia’s been oddly moody the past few weeks. Ava figures it’s because of Tate and Holly, but Amy notes that THAT problem was in the spring, so why be upset now? Ava covers again saying Holly and Tate got back together recently, so that probably set her off.
Amy starts pushing for more and Ava suggests that maybe she should ask her daughter about her life. Amy appeals to Ava, mother to mother. She has a right to know — which is when Sophia stumbles upon them. Her mom demands to know if she kissed Tate, so Sophia makes up a story about Tate kissing her, but he’s back with Holly so it’s all good.
“That’s the whole story?” Amy isn’t buying it, leaping straight into: “Are you doing drugs?!” She doesn’t believe anything Sophia says, pushing her daughter to snap out that they’ve done a lot more than kissing. Ava sighs in defeat, suggesting they go indoors, but Amy plows on, telling her daughter that neither her, nor God find this acceptable.
Sophia’s getting more and more nauseous, though, and when her mom tries taking her to the doctor, Sophia throws up in the trash can saying it’s way too late.
In the show’s final moments, Sophia gets back to Tate’s, looking scared. “We can’t go,” she says, wrapping her arms around herself. Tate asks why and Amy bursts into the room. “Because of me.”
Belle and Shawn make nice and he tells her that any DA is better than EJ — especially her. Just then EJ comes in, pushes past them telling Belle to not get too comfortable winning and heads into Jada’s office. He asks what he can do and Paulina takes great pleasure in telling him, “nothing.” She’s replacing him as DA “effective immediately.
Back at the DiMera mansion, Rafe breaks in. The living room is empty, but he notices a robe on the floor. Arnold comes sauntering down the staircase, muttering about EJ and walks into the living room — and right into Rafe!
Next on Days of Our Lives, Doug is there for Holly to talk to, and EJ issues a cryptic warning to Paulina.
