EastEnders’ Elaine Knight has delivered a huge ultimatum to Cindy Beale, in the show’s latest episode.
Last week, Elaine stumbled across Freddie’s birdsong recording playing – which, in October, had picked up a sordid conversation between Cindy and David Wicks.
Elaine now knows not only about Cindy’s affair with Junior, but also that her heart truly lies with her ex-husband George.
In today’s episode, Elaine continued to listen to the recording, but so far she had kept Cindy’s dark secrets to herself, after stealing Freddie’s USB stick.
Meanwhile, things were still tense between Lauren and Peter, following the revelations about her painkiller addiction and Kojo corroborating Cindy’s version of events from the night of his accident.
Cindy received a text from ‘Junior’, claiming to be using a friend’s phone as he had lost his, and asking her to meet him in the park.
She fell for the trick, and Cindy soon found out that it was Elaine who sent the text, and that she knew all about her affair with Junior as her chat with David had been recorded.
Elaine told Cindy that she has to come round to the Knights’ family dinner at 7pm and tell everyone the truth – or she would play everyone the entire recording.
Later, Ian explained that he was going to try and help Peter get sole custody of Louie, but Cindy defended Lauren and reasoned that she was an addict.
Cindy went round to The Vic and told Elaine she would end things with Junior and urged her not to wreck her family, but Elaine remained firm that she needed to face the consequences.
At 7pm, Cindy was a no-show, so Elaine stood up and prepared to reveal the truth. But when George made an emotional speech of his own and told his family that he had never been happier, Elaine didn’t feel able to put a spanner in the works.
Cindy looked concerned at her own dinner, thinking she had been exposed, but she was surprised when Elaine arrived and admitted that she hadn’t gone through with it. However, she delivered a huge ultimatum, for if Cindy wants the truth kept under wraps.
“But there is one condition,” Elaine said. “You leave Walford, forever. And you never contact George again.”
