EastEnders executive producer Chris Clenshaw has provided more details about what is coming up over Christmas and New Year, ahead of a dramatic festive season.
The soap is gearing up for an exciting Christmas Day instalment, airing in two parts, which will see Cindy Beale’s huge secrets revealed – when the recording of her and David’s conversation is
exposed in dramatic fashion.
However, viewers have even more to look forward to in the episodes over the next couple of weeks, which Clenshaw outlined at a special Christmas screening.
Speaking to and other press, he explained: “There’s a lot going on, it’s not just the Beales and Knights saga. There’s the Stacey Martin Ruby love triangle.
“Since Ruby returned, Stacey’s definitely got the feels. But it’s just whether she plucks up the courage to tell him or it’s too late.”
Clenshaw was also full of praise for the current loneliness storyline involving Phil Mitchell. Those around him, including Sharon and Jay, have attempted to reach out with support, but he hasn’t yet felt able to open up to his loved ones.
“He’s got family around him, but despite that, he’s struggling,” he said. “As we move through the festive period, Steve McFadden is blowing my socks off.
“It’s a really interesting and different story to tell with a character like Phil Mitchell, who we all feel we know, or know someone who’s just like Phil. I’ve just signed off an episode that is phenomenal, and Steve is brilliant.”
After Christmas, there is another huge week of episodes in the pipeline, with Suki and Eve’s wedding taking place on New Year’s Day and marking an important milestone in the soap’s history.
Clenshaw teased: “We’ve got a big New Year storyline with Suki and Eve’s wedding, where Ravi is central to the action. It’s EastEnders’ first lesbian wedding, but we know that Nish is out there, he’s gone underground, it’s his final act of vengeance.
“My heart was in my mouth when I watched those episodes, and I knew what was coming. Expect a lot of drama at New Year!”
