In May 2023, it was announced that Yellowstone would end after airing the second part of Season 5.
\While there were rumors that the series may continue beyond the current season, Paramount never
officially confirmed a sixth season. However, fans were quick to notice one detail in the latest preview for
the show’s penultimate episode.
It was announced during the preview that the series only had one episode left until the “season finale” of Yellowstone. Fans found it weird that it wasn’t mentioned as a series finale. It has sparked widespread speculation among fans that Sheridan and Paramount could be secretly planning a sixth season.
A Sixth Season Of Yellowstone Might Happen After The Show’s Latest Hint
Episode 12 of Yellowst one‘s fifth season was a tearjerker as fans mourned the loss of a longtime character of the show. However, fans soon found themselves head-deep in discussions when a preview for the penultimate episode dropped after Sunday’s episode. The discussion was about whether the show was ending in two weeks or not.
While the show continues to intrigue audiences despite Kevin Costner‘s departure, fans have grown to accept the fact that the show would end after Season 5. It was what Paramount had announced in May, around the time when rumors about Costner and Taylor Sheridan’s feud were rampant.
Recently in August 2024, there was an unconfirmed report from Puck about Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser returning for a sixth season. However, fans weren’t as excited by the idea from the reports as they are now after the Episode 13 preview. In the preview, the announcer mentioned at one point that there was “only one episode left until the season finale of Yellowstone.”
By mentioning it as the season finale, the show hinted at the possibility of coming up with more seasons. Fans have already expressed doubts about the show’s conclusion after five seasons since the current season has left too many open plots for its two remaining episodes to address.
Paramount’s announcement about the show ending after five seasons came in May 2023. In the one and a half years since then, both Sheridan and Paramount could’ve had a change of heart. It might also be possible that Paramount could be waiting for the audience response to a Costner-less season to decide on the future of the show.
Fans React To The Preview’s Not-So-Subtle Season 6 Hint
Fans took to X after Sunday’s preview called Season 5 Episode 14, which is set to air on December 15, as the season finale and not the series finale. Fans wanted to make sure that they heard it right and were excited when other fans confirmed their suspicions. One fan mentioned that they had since lost trust in Taylor Sheridan but the update still caught them off-guard.
According to the NY Post, actor Cole Hauser shared that he would return as Rip Wheeler for a sixth season if Sheridan wrote it. That confession along with the Puck report seems like something’s cooking behind the scenes in Yellowstone. Sheridan’s latest project Landman is failing to make an impression, which might prompt him to put his focus back on Yellowstone.
