Coronation Street has aired Bethany Platt’s deception at a local support group.
Viewers saw Bethany attend her first meeting at a stoma bag support group, seeking out help and guidance following her
recent stoma bag surgery.
It soon becomes evident that Bethany has deceived group leader Dawn though, with her under the impression that Bethany had a different health condition that led to her ending up with a stoma bag.
Dawn believes Bethany has a stoma bag because she had cancer, rather than the sepsis she developed after a botched liposuction operation she underwent in Turkey.
In the meeting, Bethany says she’s “so scared” to be intimate with her partner Daniel with him hiding how he feels about her body post-surgery.
“You don’t have to rush it though,” Dawn replies. “I mean it’s only been a couple of months [since the op].”
“And then before that god knows how many more months of worry about having the cancer,” Dawn continues. “I bet he’s still over the moon that the operation was a success. You’re Big C free and he didn’t lose you.”
After the meeting, Bethany leaves while Dawn catches up with Debbie Webster, THE owner of the Chariot Square hotel where the support group convenes.
Enquiring after Bethany’s welfare, Dawn tells her that she’s made a “huge step” coming to the support group after facing cancer.
A confused Debbie brushes it off and decides to check in with Bethany for clarity.
Bethany later admits to Debbie that Dawn wrongly assumed she had cancer but that she was too embarrassed to correct her with the truth.
She tells Debbie she doesn’t intend to go back but Debbie tells her she must. But will Bethany tell the truth to Dawn?
Bethany’s deception could likely lead to some trouble between her and partner Daniel because his late wife Sinead died of cancer.
