EastEnders star Kellie Bright has said that viewers will see the “worst version” of her character Linda Carter in upcoming scenes.
Linda started drinking heavily again in recent weeks, haunted by Keanu’s death and the revelations about her late father.
In scenes set to air on the BBC soap next week, she continues to spiral and lashes out at her loved ones.
Linda turns on her son Johnny when he confronts her about the impact of her drinking, has a nasty encounter with Bernie, steals a bottle of alcohol from the Minute Mart when Alfie refuses to serve her, and causes Sharon’s house to be robbed after recklessly leaving the door open.
Teasing the upcoming scenes, Bright shared: “You will see the very worst version of Linda on screen.
“She is so awful and says such horrible things to people that she’s getting more and more isolated. She is mentally detaching herself from the people that care about her.”
Bright explained that Linda is “so deep into her alcoholism that she’s blissfully unaware of the damage she is causing”.
“It’s not registering with her in those moments,” she continued. “I think she may wake up with paranoia and think ‘what did I do?’ and the only way to quieten those thoughts is to have another drink. Sadly, I don’t think she’s conscious of what’s happening.”
As for how Linda’s mum Elaine will react when she returns to Walford, Bright said: “When Elaine comes back, she quickly discovers she has to take drastic action. She needs to get Linda help because she can’t carry on like this. So, she gives Linda an ultimatum…”
