Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) probably doesn’t know whether she’s coming or going with the amount of times she’s
been sacked and reinstated as Ken Barlow’s (William Roache) carer in Coronation Street this week.
When Ken reassessed his finances after returning from his holiday to Porto, he decided that he could no longer afford to
keep paying Cassie to care for him, much to the relief of his family.
Breaking the news to Cassie, he told her that he no longer needed her services because he was feeling much better – but Cassie wasn’t prepared to go without a job.
Later, she crushed pills into his tea to make him ill, so that he would still need her help.
Feeling under the weather and unaware of Cassie’s foul play, Ken asked her to return to her position, and she graciously accepted.

However, things took a turn when Ken ended up in hospital due to his recent dose of medication being incorrect and, assuming Cassie was to blame, Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) unceremoniously fired her – again.
Things took a turn, however, when Toyah Battersby (Georgia Taylor) came to Cassie’s defence, and revealed how she had witnessed Tracy Barlow (Kate Ford) spilling Ken’s pills.
Believing that Tracy had inadvertently been the cause of Ken’s funny turn, he admonished her and ordered her out, announcing that she was no longer welcome in the house.

He then called Cassie back, and made it clear that not only was her job safe, but he would be giving her a pay rise.
Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough guaranteed job security for Cassie, who soon questioned Ken on his ill health.
When he explained that the doctors had been able to treat him quickly because they knew that the problem had been caused by his prescription medication, Cassie began looking further afield for drugs to use against him, in order to remain undetected.
Could Ken be in serious danger as Cassie vies to keep her job?
