To say that Stephanie has complicated feelings about Philip on Days of Our Lives might be oversimplifying things. While she was happy enough to talk to him on Friday’s episode, she pretty much laughed in his face when he suggested working together. Then he seemed to downplay their past a bit until she prompted him to recall their engagement.
And we get it. That started with them working together and ended with far more danger than even Stephanie, a one-time race car driver, could handle!
They began dating back when Philip was running Titan. (And back when she was played by Shelley Hennig and he was played by Jay Kenneth Johnson.) Philip hired her as an intern, then started leaning on her more and more as Kate went though stage four cancer. (Clearly, she survived.) Melanie tried to come between them more than a few times, but Philip kept shutting her down and eventually, he and Stephanie got engaged.
But then the Kiriakis/DiMera feud exploded, Stefano and EJ took out hits on Philip, Victor and Philip kidnapped Stefano and finally, EJ kidnapped Stephanie. That was the last straw for her, and she broke off their engagement and never looked back. So you can understand why she was a bit aghast when he downplayed their whole relationship
As for a future together, well, we all saw them kissing in the big show preview… And Philip, John Paul Lavoisier says, is moving on from Chloe. They just didn’t work out after leaving together for New York. So when he finally runs into Stephanie again, there’s still a bit of a spark.
“They catch each other’s eye,” Lavoisier explains to Soaps.com, before amending it a bit. “She definitely catches his eye. I can’t speak for her, but he’s coming off of a failed relationship in New York. And I think it’s human nature — no man’s an island. It’s like, ‘Oh. Oh, hi! We know each other!’”
And with Stephanie and Alex resisting their attraction once again, Philip might actually have a chance. But if he and Steph end up getting a do-over, we wouldn’t hold our breaths that it’ll last. Because this wouldn’t be the first time Stephanie’s tried moving on from Alex — and while she and Chad are at least on friendly terms, that relationship went a whole lot of nowhere. To complicate things even more, Philip could split his family even further, since we don’t see his cousin taking lightly to Philip trying to win Stephanie back
