Yellowstone Director Candidly Addresses The Show’S Future After Season 5 Amid Confusing Spinoff & Season 6 Reports: “Each Of Those Characters Could Sustain Their Own Narratives” – Breaking News Updates

Yellowstone director Christina Voros candidly addresses the show’s future, discussing reports of spinoffs

and a potential sixth installment. It is confirmed that another spinoff of Yellowstone, titled The Madison,

is in the works. It’ll be led by three-time Oscar nominee Michelle Pfeiffer. It is less clear what becomes of

the hit Western drama that launched the Yellowstone franchise beyond the upcoming episodes, which will start to debut in a matter of days.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, ahead of Yellowstone season 5 part 2, which premieres Sunday, November 10 at 8 PM ET on the Paramount Network, Voros was asked whether she felt like she was directing the last episodes of the Western drama. The veteran director, who helmed episodes of the spinoff 1883 and will direct The Madison, shares that she doesn’t know whether Yellowstone will end:

I think the degree of secrecy that went into it, the vibe was definitely that we were protecting a conclusion. As far as what the future holds? I don’t know. I honestly don’t know.

Voros elaborates more when addressing the confusion around Yellowstone season 6. When asked whether the story could continue or if it’s left in a satisfactory place, the director answered that it’s both. On the whole, Voros praises the Western drama and says that Beth or Rip could each carry the story forward

Both? When you create iconic characters like this, everyone has their own story that could continue. That’s true of most shows; most good shows. And that’s why in the last 10 years you see so many spinoffs, because there’s a character who stands out and you say, “Well, that character isn’t there anymore, but boy it would be interesting to see what this character does next.” I think when you build characters that are rich, multi-faceted and intriguing with a life force, if you’ve done your job correctly, each of those characters could sustain their own narratives

The Yellowstone Season 6 & Spinoff News, Explained
Another Starry Spinoff Is Confirmed

The Madison is well underway. The spinoff is described as a “a heartfelt study of grief and human connection” in official reports, focusing on a New York family in the Madison River valley of central Montana. Along with Pfeiffer, the spinoff’s cast also includes Lost actor Matthew Fox, Suits star Patrick J. Adams, and others. As with other Yellowstone spinoffs, franchise creator Taylor Sheridan is among the executive producers.

The status of Yellowstone season 6, meanwhile, hasn’t been officially announced. But in the past few months, there have been reports that Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are in talks to reprise their respective roles as Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler. Given the chance to respond to those reports directly, Reilly did not confirm or deny whether she’d return for more Yellowstone beyond the remaining season 5 episodes.

It’s worth noting that much of the uncertainty stems from Kevin Costner’s controversial exit as the central John Dutton and the public feud with Sheridan and Paramount. It’s unclear how the character of John will be written off the series, considering his centrality to the story. The lack of confirmation on season 6 may also be about wanting to keep the focus on Yellowstone season 5 part 2, which is still to debut.

Our Take On The Latest Yellowstone Comments
There’s Still Drama Left To Unfold

The fifth installment of Yellowstone will pick up with the potentially deadly feud between Beth and Jamie, not to mention addressing the question of how John Dutton will be written out. The prevailing sentiment from the cast and crew seems to be to get through what’s left of the story before looking ahead. Depending on how the show ends, there could be more spinoffs or a sequel on the way.
