It turns out pretty much everyone was surprised by the General Hospital twist revealing that Sasha is Robert and Holly’s daughter. While that finally gave
Sasha an, admittedly, highly dysfunctional family, it also meant she and Cody are cousins. And seeing as how they’ve been madly in love for a little while, this news is the last thing they wanted to get! It means the end of their relationship, dead before they ever made it to bed together. Which, in retrospect, thank God.
Sofia Mattsson spoke with Soap Opera Digest about the twist and shared that while she and Josh Kelly didn’t get a whole lot of advanced warning, they did know why their characters just couldn’t manage to figure out timing for sex.
“Many people were upset about them never making it all the way,” she shared, “and it was hard to not spill the beans about why it was, in fact, a good thing they kept getting interrupted!”

As for the big reveal, Mattsson’s got mixed feelings. When it comes to being a part of the Scorpio family, she’s, “Super-happy and excited! I’ve been saying since the moment I got on the show that I would love to have a family connection, and now six years later it finally happened! I’m very thrilled, and honored.”
But that comes at the cost of Sasha and Cody’s relationship. “It’s super sad,” she shared with SOD. “I think they were really sweet together and had potential to be a super couple. But I guess I should’ve seen it coming, it’s a soap after all and happiness never lasts too long!”

Still, she says while she and Kelly haven’t had a lot of time to discuss the end of their character’s relationship, she shared that, “I think we’re both happy that we’ll still be connected, even if it’s as cousins rather than lovers.”
And maybe someday Sasha will finally get her shot at happiness — and not have it ripped away. It is true, as Mattsson said, that happiness never really lasts in daytime, but at some point Sasha has to get a win!
