Carla Connor has been confirmed as the sixth official suspect in Coronation Street‘s ‘Who killed Joel?’ story.
It was revealed last week that Carla was going to lie to police about her whereabouts at the time of Joel Deering’s murder by making up a story about being
home with Ryan on the night in question.
However, Bobby Crawford knows the truth that Carla had nipped out to shut off the lights at the factory around the same time that the crime took place.
Coronation Street has now confirmed that flashback scenes will shed new light on Carla’s potential involvement in the murder.
In Wednesday’s (October 30) episode, viewers will see Carla spotting a mysterious figure just after leaving the factory in the dead of night.
It becomes clear that Carla is hiding something, though it remains to be seen whether Detective Kit Green can prove she was involved in the villain’s demise.
Carla joins another recently announced suspect in DS Lisa Swain, who has been changing her story about the severe bruising on her back.
Lisa has even come into suspicion from her own daughter, Betsy, because her story about being injured in a combat class doesn’t line up with the timing of being prescribed a painkiller.
Viewers know there has been a growing romantic connection between Lisa and Carla over the past several months. Cast member Vicky Myers explained that Lisa is desperate to avoid falling in love because she’s “already dealing with enough” following Joel’s death.

“She will fall in love, and she knows that about herself, because she feels things really personally and deeply, and she just doesn’t want to go there right now. But who knows? Maybe the feelings will become too strong,” the actor said.
“I’d like to see her softer side, which is slowly coming through. But to be authentic, things just don’t change overnight. I would like to really explore that and experiment with her, because this is a new side to her that we haven’t seen yet.”
The murder case could have a breakthrough in tense scenes airing next week, as Dee-Dee Bailey prepares to confess that she killed Joel. But is she telling the truth?
